Flora & Fauna

Kerala has one of the richest varieties of flora and fauna in India and they are also the best managed in the country. The awareness about environment protection is quite high among the people of the state.

Eravikulam, Periyar, and Silent Valley are the three national parks in the state. There are many more wildlife sanctuaries too like the Wynad, Idukki, and Thattekkad. The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserves covers some parts of the state.

The major forest types in the state are moist deciduous and evergreen. Teak, bamboo, and several varieties of grasses are found in these forests. One can look for tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild dog, jackal, elephant, and Indian fox in the forests of this state. Apart from these, there are other species of animals, birds, and plants too that add to the charm of this state.
